Announcing Silhouette — A New EP by Paul Bedal + Debut Single “Pendulum” Out Now
Lingering at the edges—part memory, part mirage. Silhouette is the latest project from pianist and composer Paul Bedal—a four-track suite of textured compositions that drift between ambient improvisation, chamber jazz, and cinematic minimalism.
Co-produced with multi-instrumentalist Dion Kerr, and featuring an ensemble of trusted collaborators—Caroline Davis (alto sax, flute), Steve Pardo (bass clarinet), Katie Ernst (voice), Will Miller (flugelhorn), and Peter Manheim (percussion)—the EP moves like light across water: always shifting, refracting emotion through tone and breath.
The single, "Pendulum," is a slow-burning meditation in motion. With flute, alto saxophone, and bass clarinet weaving around each other, a hypnotic call takes shape—soaring above the rolling pulse laid down by co-producer Dion Kerr on bass, drums and percussion. The piece feels like a conversation in color: questions posed and answered through timbral shifts, harmonic shades, rhythmic detours. It dances between playfulness and uncertainty, returning often—but never quite the same—to its original pulse.
